Volunteer Training Starts Soon!
If you know anyone who you think might be a good fit at CAPS, now is a great time to let them know. We’re looking for independent, computer-savvy multi-taskers, who are compassionate and love the Lord. Our next volunteering starts soon! Applications are due by 8/15. If you know anyone, you can copy and send them this info:
“The pregnancy ministry clinic I volunteer with has a training coming up, and I think you’d be a great fit. The training and volunteer information can be found here: https://www.friendsofcaps.org/volunteer.html. Training applications are due by 8/15.”
Also, if you’re currently receptioning with us and you would like to take the upcoming training to add to your skills as a Receptionist (highly recommend!), or to possibly transition to the Patient Care Specialist role, please connect with Julie W.
First Gifts Update
At CAPS, we love when our patients say they intend to raise the baby that they are carrying! We want to affirm that there is a baby growing within and celebrate that little life. When this happens, the PCS gives the patient a “Baby’s First Gift”, a little gift that symbolizes our life-affirming value that this fetus is indeed a baby and that the baby’s life is worth celebrating, even if the pregnancy was not planned or if their circumstances are complicated. This is one of CAPS core values.
Do you know that we have these little celebrations approximately 200 times a month! That is awesome! But it also means that we quickly go through the donated items and need a constant flow of incoming items.
The gift item is wrapped in a cellophane bag with a cute sticker and possibly a bow on the item.
Please consider purchasing some items or rallying your friends to donate items to be used for Baby’s First Gifts. The items need to be new, gender neutral, appropriate for a baby age 0-6 months, and smaller than 3″x 3″x 2″. The following items can be used for first gifts: bibs/bandanas, onesies, teethers, rattles, and socks. We can individually wrap items that are sold in a larger set.
Do you know that CAPS has an Amazon Wish List for items that we use in the Baby Baskets and Baby’s First Gifts? Use the link to check it out! Of course the items do not need to be purchased from Amazon and are not limited to these products, but it will help you see the types of items we need. If you make a purchase through the Amazon Wish List, the items will be shipped directly to the College Area clinic. If you serve at one of the satelite clinics, you can either drop off the items at the College Area Clinic or give it to your COC so we can arrange a pick up.
Here are some more of our favorite comments from recent Patient Satisfaction Surveys
- “Everyone was so kind & caring. Nurse Maggie was upbeat & thorough during ultrasound. Judy was absolutely wonderful.”
- “I’ve been very anxious, but coming here put me at ease because the staff is excellent. I was made to feel very comfortable.”
- “Colette was amazing and thank you so much to everyone at CAPS!!!”
- “Thank you much. Really made a difference in my day and my choices I’m able to make.”
- “I feel extremely grateful for the kind support I received during my visit. I left feeling more relieved and confident.”
Congrats to the Beach Area clinic for having the highest survey offer rates two months in a row!
Keep up the great work and continue asking patients to complete our Patient Satisfaction Survey. Our goal is to verbally offer the survey to over 80% of our new patients (including STI), so we can get an accurate picture of how our patients think we’re doing and how we can serve them even better. We’re at 57% and need your help to reach our goal. Offer Patient Satisfaction Surveys to all first visit patients who are not distraught at the end of their time with us. We are grateful for your help reaching this goal!
Let the Sparks Fly!
by Amy Ford, Co-Founder and President of Embrace Grace
Did you know that when a sperm meets an egg, sparks fly? Literally! (I actually didn’t know about this until Jor-El Godsey, President of Heartbeat International, told me this past January!)
In 2016, researchers at Northwestern University in Chicago captured the miraculous moment that a sperm fertilizes an egg at the microscopic level. An explosion of zinc fireworks occurs when a human egg is activated by a sperm enzyme. Scientists say the spark’s intensity indicates the egg’s potential to develop into a healthy embryo.

Help CAPS in the Summer Months!
We could use your help keeping up our outreach with churches in the summer months. Here are a couple things you can do:
- Request a CAPS ministry table opportunity on any Sunday in August and early September. We will provide you with the items to be able to reach your church with CAPS info and opportunities.
- Request a baby bottle coin drive at your church. CAPS has the bottles and the easy steps to make it simple and effective.
- Suggest CAPS as the recipient of a church service project or women’s group fundraiser.
Ask Janelle for a ministry table kit or if you have any questions. Contact: janelle@capsonline.org
